Ireland, July 6-July 14, 2015
We enjoyed a very successful tour in Ireland in July of 2015. Our program of music contained some classical favorites as well as pieces by American and Irish composers. We opened each of our performances with the National Anthems of Ireland and the United States of America. We performed music by Vivaldi, Boyce, Schubert, Dvorak, Anderson, Kerr, and Day. Several of our students were featured as soloists in the concert program.
We arrived in Dublin, Ireland on July 7 and traveled to the south of Ireland visiting the rock of Cashel and the ruins of Cormac’s chapel before settling into our hotel in Cork.
July 8, we began the day with a Master Class at the Cork School of Music, followed by our excursion to Blarney Castle to ‘kiss the Blarney Stone’ and receive the gift of eloquence. That evening we presented our first public performance at St. Multose’s Church in Kinsale a charming picturesque town with an excellent audience.
July 9 we visited Macroom and the famed Muckross Gardens. Our evening performance was held at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Tralee. The audience that evening was warm and inviting and nearly at capacity.
July 10, our second day in Killarney, we took a drive along the Ring of Kerry a naturally spectacular region that has attracted tourists for hundreds of years.
July 11, on the way to Limerick, we visited the Cliffs of Moher. Though the weather was a bit rainy and overcast, it did not detract from the sheer wonder and beauty of the cliffs. We were left breathless!
July 12, we traveled to Dublin for city sight-seeing including St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity College, and the Book of Kells, Ireland’s most richly decorated medieval illuminated manuscript. In the afternoon, there was ample time for shopping and touring along famed Grafton Street.
July 13, we prepared for our final performance at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin. The musicians were rewarded with a standing ovation! We completed our tour with some last minute shopping on Grafton Street before returning to our hotel in Dublin for our last evening together.
Congratulations to all participants and the parents who joined us for the excellent performances in Ireland!!
